For travellers coming from Yemen, the only visa issued at designated land crossings is the short transit visa, which is for passing through Oman to another country. Gulf residents with an approved profession are a separate case.

Since 2015, Yemeni passports have been issued by more than one authority, and acceptance can differ between airlines, transit countries and border posts. Yemen to Oman by Road

Many travellers make the journey from Yemen to Oman by road, particularly from Al-Mahra and Hadramawt, heading to Salalah for family visits, treatment or onward flights. Plan the journey around your visa: a tourist visa should be approved before you set off, and a transit visa only works if you meet its conditions. Apply as soon as your dates are fixed rather than the day before departure, because a long road journey is hard to reschedule if a document needs correcting.

The Al Mazyunah Border Crossing

The Al Mazyunah border crossing in Dhofar Governorate is the best-known land route between Yemen's Al-Mahra region and Oman, and the road continues towards Salalah. Allow extra time around Eid holidays, and carry printed copies of every document.

Travellers crossing on a transit visa should have the visa or residence for their next country ready to show. Children need their own passports and their own visa or transit permission.

Yemen to Oman Flight Options

Direct flights between Yemen and Oman are limited, and schedules change often, so a Yemen to Oman flight usually involves a connection. Many travellers either cross by road and fly from Salalah, or connect through a hub such as Jeddah, Riyadh, Dubai or Cairo. If you connect elsewhere, keep the journey on one ticket where possible, since collecting bags and checking in again may mean passing that country's immigration. Salalah is the nearest Omani airport to the Al Mazyunah crossing. Oman is one hour ahead of Yemen, which matters when planning connections and hotel check-in.

Oman Visa for Yemenis Living in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf

A large Yemeni community lives in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, and a Gulf residence permit can open a different route. According to the Royal Oman Police, the Oman visa for Yemenis living in Saudi Arabia or another GCC country is available to residents with an approved profession who travel to Oman directly from the Gulf. It allows 28 days from entry, is valid for one trip, can be extended once for a week, and can be issued at Omani entry points. Family members travelling with an eligible resident can be included. Your iqama or other Gulf residence card needs to be valid, and the profession shown on it is what decides eligibility.

An Oman visit visa for Yemenis with a close relative resident in Oman is frequently sponsored by the relative directly. Their residence permit and documents proving the family link carry weight, so check with us which route fits before applying.

Many Yemenis also travel to Muscat or Salalah for hospital treatment. If that is your reason for travelling, tell us when you apply. Every child needs a passport and a visa or transit permission in their own name, including babies. If a child is travelling with only one parent, carry a signed consent letter from the other parent together with a copy of that parent's passport, as airlines and border officers can ask for it.

Extending an Oman Tourist Visa

You may be able to extend an Oman tourist visa if your plans change, but approval is never automatic. The request has to be made while your visa is valid, and eligibility depends on the visa type and your sponsor.
