Oman's currency is the Omani rial, divided into 1,000 baisa. Its value is fixed to the US dollar, with one rial worth about US$2.60. The rial-to-naira rate moves with the naira, so check a current rate when budgeting for hotels, taxis and meals. US dollars are easy to exchange in central Muscat, and international cards are accepted in most hotels and larger shops.

Is Oman Visa Free for Nigerians?

No. Oman gives visa-free stays to a published list of nationalities, mostly European, American and some Asian passports, and a smaller group can apply for a tourist e-visa on their own. Nigeria is on neither list. What is often described as an Oman visa ban for Nigerians was in fact a UAE measure. Between October 2022 and July 2024, the United Arab Emirates suspended visas for Nigerian citizens. The two countries run separate immigration systems. Nigerians can apply for Omani visit visas, but a UAE decision never changes whether an Oman visa is granted.

The Oman tourist visa for Nigerians allows one entry and a stay of up to 30 days from arrival. It suits holidays, visits to friends or relatives, and private events such as weddings. Domestic travel inside Oman, from Muscat to Nizwa or Salalah, has no effect on the visa. Leaving for a side trip to Dubai or Doha ends it, and returning to Oman would need a new visa.

• Your passport, with six months or more of validity counted from the day you land, and a sharp scan of the photo page.

• A flight reservation out of Oman, either return or onward; buying the ticket can wait until approval.
• Proof of where you will stay, such as a hotel reservation or, for private stays, your host's Omani residence card.

Some applications need something extra, such as a bank statement; we tell you before anything is submitted. Enter every name exactly as it appears in the passport, including middle names, and make sure the flight booking uses the same spelling. If a renewal is coming up, renew first, because an approved visa is linked to the passport number used in the application. Delays usually come from a blurred or cropped scan, a photo with a grey or coloured background, and a hotel address left blank, all of which are easy to fix before you submit.

Oman Embassy in Nigeria: What to Know

The list of Omani embassies and consulates abroad published by Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not include a mission in Nigeria. There is therefore no Oman embassy in Nigeria to visit, and you do not need one: tourist visas for Nigerians are handled electronically.

Is There an Oman Embassy in Abuja?

Not according to that official list, which shows no Oman embassy in Abuja or anywhere else in Nigeria. Be cautious of anyone offering paid "embassy appointments" or fast-track slots for an Oman tourist visa in Abuja or Lagos. Yellow Card Nigeria Rules for Travel to Oman

Anyone aged nine months or older flying into Oman from a yellow fever risk country must present a vaccination certificate. Nigeria falls into that category, and so does a connection of over 12 hours in a second risk country.

Since July 2019, Nigeria has issued the electronic e-Yellow Card in place of the older handwritten card. Check that the name and date of birth on the card match your passport exactly. Carry your yellow card, with the original in your hand luggage, and remember that a first vaccination only becomes valid ten days after it is given. Under WHO rules, the certificate then remains valid for life.

There is no non-stop flight between Nigeria and Oman. Most travellers connect through Doha, Dubai, Istanbul or Addis Ababa, so the Nigeria to Oman flight time depends heavily on the layover. Paid work of any kind, including freelance projects done during your stay, needs a work or residence permission arranged through the proper channel. Be wary of anyone promising an Oman freelance visa on the back of a tourist visa, particularly when payment is requested in cash or through a personal account.

Oman Visa for Nigerians Travelling as a Family

Each family member, including babies, needs an individual Oman visa for Nigerians, with a separate passport scan and photo. Applications can be submitted together so that everyone's decisions arrive around the same time. If a child travels with only one parent, carry the other parent's written consent and a copy of their passport, since airlines or immigration can ask for it. For mixed-nationality families, each person follows the rules for their own passport, and a spouse with a visa-exempt nationality may not need a visa at all. Nigerians Holding a Second Passport

Nigeria allows citizens by birth to hold another nationality, and many Nigerians also carry a British, American or European passport. Oman looks only at the passport you present, and British, American and most European passports are among those allowed 14 days without a visa. An Oman visa extension may be possible if your plans change, but it is not automatic. Apply before your visa's last day; whether it is granted depends on the kind of visa you hold and on your sponsor.
