INTRODUCTION

Oman has recently enacted a new rule that requires all expatriate citizens to update their residence permit 15 days prior to the card's expiration date. The regulation that had previously been in effect stated that foreign citizens may extend their visa up to 30 days before it was set to expire. Having said that, this regulation has just been changed.

Based on an updated Residency Law that was issued by a Royal Prerogative by Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, foreign nationals who have made Oman their permanent home are required to reapply for their citizenship permits 15 days before they expire.

RESIDENT CARD EXPIRY AND RENEWAL PROCESS:

According to Royal Decree No. 60/2021, "a foreign person should send a proposal to revive his residency card 15 days well before the expiration date, and it is allowable to deny providing or regenerating residence without providing justifications." In other words, a foreign person should send a proposal to revive his residency card 15 days well before permission expires.

The granting of visas, which had been halted for an extended period of time (months), has only just begun again. After having their citizen cards lapse and being forced to change employment classifications in order to satisfy the Omaniization requirement imposed mostly by the Department of Employment, a great number of expatriates who rely on private companies are currently in the process of having their applications for new cards accelerated. During this transition phase, the renewing of a residency permit that did not include a shift in the category may be completed online, as could the extension of a dependant visa for a primary visa bearer.

GETTING A RESIDENT CARD:

After the employee's employment visa has been approved, the foreign worker has to apply for a residency permit in order to be able to lawfully remain in Oman for the length of their job. This takes place after the international worker has arrived in Oman

When the worker first arrives in Oman, during the first 30 days after admission, they are required to get a residency card by going to the Civil Position Division of the Imperial Oman Guard. The worker will be fingerprinted after undergoing a blood sample at the medical facility where the exam will take place. When all of the information has been gathered, the General Directorate of Civil Position will give the residence card to the worker. This card has a validity period of 2 years.

Step 2: At this time, you will have to deposit RO 10 (this amount is subject to change).

THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVANTAGE OF USING E GATES:

It is helpful in avoiding lengthy lines at airlines for the purpose of clearing screening and customs. In order to fully streamline the enrollment process, these e-gates link to a digital card as well as a residence card that has fingerprint recognition.

In contrast, if you use a conventional approach, it may take several hours. At Oman's terminals, a time-saving strategy is used to simplify travel for the country's population.
