Oman Visa for Kenyan Citizens
Kenyan passport holders cannot enter Oman visa-free, so the visa has to be approved before you fly. For a holiday, a family visit or a short stay with friends, we currently arrange the 30-day single-entry tourist visa for Kenyan citizens at $162, and you can begin your Oman visa application from Nairobi, Mombasa or anywhere else online. Once your documents are complete, our handling time is typically one to two days, and SalamAir's non-stop flight gets you from Nairobi to Muscat in about five hours.
Oman eVisa is a private visa assistance company. The Royal Oman Police issues every visa and makes the final decision on each application.
Which Countries Do Not Need a Visa for Oman?
The countries that do not need a visa for Oman are set out in published lists. The main one gives visa-free entry of up to 14 days to nationalities that are mostly European, North and South American, or from parts of Asia. A second, shorter list gets the same 14 days only if the traveller holds a valid US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa, or lives in a Gulf country with a qualifying job. A separate group of nationalities can file a tourist e-visa themselves without a sponsor.
Kenya does not appear on any of these lists. For Kenyans, the tourist visa is therefore issued on a sponsored basis, with an Oman-based hotel, tour company or resident standing behind the application. It is still delivered electronically, and our team handles the sponsored route for you when you apply.
Is Oman Visa Free for Kenyans with a US or UK Visa?
No. Many Kenyans travel regularly to the UK, the US or Europe, and it is easy to assume that a visa in the passport opens other doors. Oman only extends that benefit to specific nationalities, and Kenya is not one of them. The one route that can change things is residence in a Gulf country with a qualifying occupation.
What the Oman Visa for Kenyan Citizens Covers
The Oman visa for Kenyan citizens that we process is a tourist visit visa. It suits holidays, sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives, and attending private events such as weddings. It does not allow paid work, formal study or running a business in Oman. Most requests for an Oman visa for Kenyans fall into this tourist category.
How Much Is the Oman Visa for Kenyans?
The current price with Oman eVisa is $162 for a Kenyan passport. That amount covers the government fee for the visa as well as our handling of the application, and the figure at checkout is the one you pay. Prices vary by nationality, so a lower amount quoted elsewhere for another passport does not apply to Kenyan applicants. Fees cannot be returned after submission, even if the visa is refused, and our refund rules explain what happens if you cancel earlier.
Oman Tourist Visa for Kenyans: 30 Days, One Entry
The Oman tourist visa for Kenyans allows a stay of up to 30 days, starting from your arrival date. It is valid for one entry, so leaving Oman ends it. Moving around inside Oman, from Muscat to Sur or down to Salalah, makes no difference. Crossing into the UAE for a day, however, means you need a new Oman visa to return. The validity shown on our visa card is 30 days as well, so apply once your travel dates are firm.
Oman Currency to KSH: Budgeting Your Trip
Oman uses the Omani rial, which is divided into 1,000 baisa and pegged to the US dollar at roughly US$2.60 per rial. The visa is priced in dollars, and your bank converts the charge into Kenyan shillings at its own rate, so the amount on your statement may differ slightly from an online converter. Budget for the rial's strength when planning hotels, meals and transport around Oman.
Oman Visa Requirements for Kenyan Citizens
The Oman visa requirements for Kenyan citizens on a tourist trip are short:
| Document | What to provide |
|---|---|
| Passport | Valid for at least six months from arrival, with a clear scan of the data page |
| Photo | Recent, in colour, on a plain white background |
| Flight | A return or onward reservation; a paid ticket is not needed before approval |
| Accommodation | A hotel booking, or a copy of your host's Omani residence card if you are staying with friends or family |
Our Oman visa photo specifications explain size and file format, which avoids a rejected upload. Some applications need an additional document, such as a bank statement, and we let you know before submission. If you have renewed your passport recently, apply with the new one, because the visa is linked to a single passport number. Typical hold-ups include a blurred passport scan, a photo with a coloured background and names typed differently from the passport, all of which are easy to avoid.
Oman Visiting Visa Procedure for Applicants in Kenya
The Oman visiting visa procedure is fully online, so getting an Oman visa from Kenya does not involve posting your passport or booking an appointment. The approved visa arrives by email.
How to Get Oman Visa from Kenya Online

- Type your name and passport details exactly as printed in your passport.
- Upload the passport scan, photo, flight reservation and accommodation proof.

Handling normally takes one to two days after everything is complete. This is our own estimate, and Omani immigration can take longer if it needs more information. You can follow your application status online at any stage.
Oman's Yellow Fever Rule for Arrivals from Kenya
Anyone aged nine months or over flying into Oman from a country where yellow fever can be transmitted must show a vaccination certificate. Kenya is on that list because parts of the country carry a risk, and the requirement applies by country of departure, so it covers you even if you have only been in Nairobi or Mombasa. It also applies after a layover longer than 12 hours in another risk country.
Your certificate is valid for life under WHO rules. If you have never been vaccinated, book the vaccine at least ten days before you fly, because a first certificate takes effect only after that period. Carry the original yellow card in your hand luggage.
Nairobi to Muscat Direct Flight and Arrival
SalamAir currently operates the Nairobi to Muscat direct flight, several times a week, from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Other airlines connect through Gulf hubs or via Addis Ababa. If you book a connection, keep the whole journey on one ticket. With separate tickets you may need to collect bags and check in again mid-route, which can mean clearing immigration in the transit country and needing its visa.
Kenya to Oman Flight Time
The Kenya to Oman flight time is about five hours when you fly non-stop. Connecting journeys usually take much longer, depending on the layover. Muscat immigration officers can ask for your onward ticket and hotel or host details, so pack printouts of both alongside your visa and yellow card.
Time in Oman Compared with Kenya
Local time in Oman is one hour ahead of Kenya. Oman runs on GMT+4 and Kenya on GMT+3, and neither country changes its clocks during the year, so check that your arrival time and hotel check-in are both calculated in Omani time.
Oman Embassy in Kenya and Visa Applications
The Oman embassy in Kenya is the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Nairobi, on Gigiri Road, off Limuru Road, in Muthaiga. Its services include visa applications and document authentication. For a tourist trip, you do not need to go there in person, because the sponsored tourist visa is handled online and emailed to you.
Kenyan Embassy in Oman: Support During Your Stay
The Kenyan embassy in Oman is in the Shatti Al Qurum area of Muscat. It helps Kenyans with passport matters, emergency travel documents and registration of Kenyans living in Oman. If your passport is lost or stolen during the trip, report it to the police and contact the embassy about an emergency travel document.
Oman Visit Visa for Kenyans Living in the Gulf
Kenyans working in Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Bahrain may qualify for a different Oman visit visa for Kenyans based on their Gulf residence rather than their passport.
Oman Visa for Kenyan Passport Holders on a GCC Residence Permit
An Oman visa for Kenyan passport holders resident in the Gulf is possible when two conditions are met. The residence permit needs at least three months before it expires, and the occupation shown on it must be eligible. Domestic workers, private drivers and students usually fall outside the eligible occupations. If you qualify, read about visa options for GCC residents. If you do not, the sponsored tourist visa remains open to you: select your Gulf country of residence on the form. Living in the UAE and crossing by road, by car or on the Dubai to Muscat bus? Have the visa approved before setting off.
Family, Business and Second-Passport Trips
Not every trip from Kenya fits the standard tourist visa neatly, and choosing the right category first saves a second application.
Travelling with Children or a Mixed-Nationality Family
Every traveller needs their own visa or exemption, children included. In mixed-nationality families, a British spouse, for example, can enter visa-free for up to 14 days while the Kenyan partner holds a 30-day visa, so plan longer trips around the shorter limit. If a close relative lives in Oman, they may be able to sponsor a family visit instead of a hotel or tour company.
Business Meetings and Conferences
Meetings, trade events or exploring a deal call for a business visa supported by a company in Oman rather than a tourist visa. Our guide to Oman business visa requirements covers invitation letters and the host company's role.
Kenyans Holding a Second Passport
Kenya has allowed dual citizenship since its 2010 constitution. If your other passport is on Oman's visa-free list, you may be able to use it for a stay of up to 14 days instead. Book the flight in that passport's name, enter and leave Oman on it, and meet the conditions for visa-free visitors, such as a return ticket, a hotel booking and health insurance.
Finding Work in Oman Safely
A tourist visa does not allow employment. A genuine job in Oman comes with an employment visa arranged by the employer before you travel, and a Royal Oman Police decision in 2023 ended the conversion of visit and tourist visas into work visas. If a recruiter is involved, check that the agency appears on the National Employment Authority's list of licensed private employment agencies. Our Oman employment visa guide explains the employer's side of the process.
Worked in Oman before? Make sure your previous residence visa was cancelled when you left. An open visa or an outstanding issue with a previous sponsor can delay a new application, so speak with our visa advisers first.
Adding Time: Oman Visa Extension Rules
An Oman visa extension can sometimes be arranged if you want to stay longer, but approval is never automatic. The request must be made before your current visa expires, and the decision depends on your visa type and sponsor. Our extension service currently costs $300 for a further 30 days, with eligibility confirmed before payment. Read how extensions are processed for the full steps, and never stay past your permitted date while waiting, as overstaying is fined for every extra day.
When you are ready, you can apply for the Kenyan tourist visa online. Questions about sponsors, Gulf residence or an earlier stay in Oman are best raised with our support team before you pay, by chat or WhatsApp at any hour.
