Obtaining Driving License in Oman:
Nationals for GCC:
The citizens of the GCC countries can easily convert their licenses to Omani licenses. The person must first get done with an eye test. There are seventeen centers available for getting tests from authorized persons. The cost for the tests is not fixed it ranged from OMR3 to OMR5. This is important because at the time of any accidents they can identify the blood of the applicant. The ROP provides the application form for a driving license. You can get the form and fill it and submit it to the Directorate of licensing and vehicle registration ROP. The office will be open from morning 7.30 to evening 2 pm from Sunday to Thursday. The price for the driving license will cost about 20 OMR and the renewal of the license is of the same cost. The renewal license is done for every two (2) years.
Expats:
If a person is moving to Oman from other places and wants to drive in Oman you need an Omani license for sure. In case the person is from any one of the GCC countries then they can follow the same rules of GCC driving license. They can just show the residency card and get the Oman license. In case the person comes under the category of countries that are non-GCC. Then you need to go through the complete process of getting a new license. You have to undergo the basic lessons for driving and the complete test process again. Few countries have an exception from these rules like the US, UK, and some parts of the EU. You can contact the ROP (Royal Oman Police) for knowing your country's status. Then you can follow the procedures required according to which your country is categorized.
People who can’t drive:
These details will be useful for people who cannot drive. There is no discrimination of gender bias in terms of driving. Anyone can learn to drive manual or automatic cars as their wish. People from the age of 18 years can get their learner's license. There is one important point to note. It is that the person is healthy and free from any diseases that cause disability to drive. The first step required for starting the lessons of driving is an eye test. You also need to have a confirmation certificate of your blood group from doctors. Then you need to fill the license application and submit the documents that are asked for. You can pay the amount for the learner license book and start preparing. The cost for the book is around OMR5. After this, you can get free lessons and take the various tests. All these tests happen in the Directorate of licensing and vehicle registration center. You need to take these tests and complete them for getting a license. After completing this whole process you need to pay an amount of OMR20 for getting the certified license.
Tourist visiting Oman:
For the tourist or passengers traveling from other countries to Oman, they need to follow few rules. If they want to drive the car from rentals is they must be at least 21 years old. This will be the first rule for tourists. If they stay in Oman for at most 3 months then they have an option. The tourists can use the driving license valid in their county. The other option is they must have an international driver’s permit for driving in Oman.
Documents Required for Oman Driving License:
For getting the Oman Driving License you need to bring along few documents. The medical certificates needed are a blood certificate and a vision test report. The application form for the driving license that's filled duly. The next is the two (2) photographs of the passport size. The printed copy of the license that you use currently is a must. The license must be at least one (1) year old. A copy of the residency card is also required for the process. The residency card and the license card original are also required to bring along for license.
